UC/CSU Eligibility (A-G Requirements)

A-G Course Requirements for UC/CSU

To meet minimum admission requirements* to attend any University of California (UC) or California State University (CSU), students must complete 15 year-long high school courses with a letter grade of C or better. 

 

There is some variation between these courses and those required for graduation from the EUHSD. All students are encouraged to consider completing A-G courses, which are designed to prepare you for wherever your future takes you, whether your next step is UC/CSU, community college, professional school, or a future career. The course requirements include:

 

University of California

California State University
   A.    History

Two years of history/social science, including one year of U.S. history or one-half year of U.S. history and one-half year of civics or American government; and one year of world history, cultures, and geography (including European history).

Two years, including one year of U.S. history or U.S. history and government and one year of other approved social science from the A or G subject areas.

B.    English

Four years of approved courses. 

ESL/ELD cannot meet the senior year of English.

Four years of approved courses.

Advanced ESL (ELD 2 or ELD 3) may be substituted for the first year of the four years of English.

C.    Math

Three years, including algebra, geometry, and intermediate algebra.

Four years recommended. In EUHSD, this should include Integrated Math 1, 2, and 3.

Three years, including algebra, intermediate algebra, and geometry.

Four years recommended. In EUHSD, this should include Integrated Math 1, 2, and 3.

D.    Lab Science

Two years with a lab required, chosen from biology, chemistry, and physics.

Three years recommended. 

Two years, including one year of biological and one year of physical science with lab.

Three years recommended. 

E.     Language Other Than English (World Language)

Two years in the same language required.

Three years recommended.

Two years in the same language required.

F.     Visual & Performing Arts

One year of visual and performing arts chosen from the following: dance, drama/theater, music, or visual art.

One year of visual and performing arts chosen from the following: dance, drama/theater, music, or visual art.

G.    College Prep Electives

One year chosen from any of the A-G subject areas

One year chosen from any of the A-G subject areas

15 (11 of the 15 prior to the last year of high school)

*Keep in mind that taking approved high school (A-G) courses isn't the only way to satisfy these requirements. You also may meet them by completing college courses or earning certain scores on various acceptable exams.
