Certificated Substitute Employees

  • Certificated applicant will apply to Substitute Teacher posting on EdJoin.
  • The district will invite qualified applicants for an interview/sub processing.
  • In preparation for sub processing, please bring:
    • Form I-9 documentation (2 forms), such as Driver’s License and Social Security Card. For acceptable Form I-9 documents, click here.
    • Recent TB clearance, if you have one.
  • At your sub processing, you will be scheduled for:

  • Certificated Substitute Pay Rate: 
    • $180/day
    • $200/day for long-term assignments (beginning Day 11)
    • Sub hourly rate is $20/hr

Credential Information

Credential documents are no longer mailed to you by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). You are notified by email when your document is issued, and you can print a copy for your records by going to the CCTC website at www.ctc.ca.gov.

  • Clear Credential Renewals: Can only be renewed online 12 months before the expiration date at www.ctc.ca.gov.
  • Preliminary Credential Renewals: Not renewable, credential holder will need to fulfill requirements listed on credential.
  • 30-day Substitute Teaching Permit: Can be renewed online at www.ctc.ca.gov or at the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE).

Classified Substitute Employees

  • Classified applicant will apply to desired substitute posting on EdJoin.
  • Classified employees will need to test for the position(s) they are applying for. Testing is offered on multiple dates, please check job postings for specific details.
  • The district will invite qualified applicants for an interview/processing.
    • A qualified candidate is an applicant who has passed the qualifying exam, meets the prerequisites for the position, i.e. typing requirement or CPR/First Aid certificate, and has a complete application on file.
  • In preparation for your processing, please have ready:
    • Form I-9 documentation (2 forms), such as Driver’s License and Social Security Card. For acceptable Form I-9 documents, click here.
    • Recent TB clearance, if you have one.
  • At your appointment, you will be scheduled for:

  • Classified substitute pay rates are dependent on the position, but generally are compensated at Step 1 of the position’s range.
